“International youth bring so much to our country. From creating people-to-people connections to helping our businesses succeed, young internationals add value to communities across Canada. As a result of today's announcement, employment shortages in sectors such as tourism will be filled while young people will have access to cultures they may not otherwise experience., languages , and Canadian societies,” said Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth.

Under the program, participants can choose from three categories:

To support their travels, working holiday participants receive open work permits that allow them to work anywhere in the host country.

Students participating in an International Co-op (Internship) program receive employer-specific work permits, allowing them to gain specialized experience in their field of study.

Young Professionals participants receive an employer-specific work permit to gain targeted professional work experience in their field of study or career path.
